The Affordable Hawaiʻi Coalition represents a diverse group of people from all walks of life. We are small business owners, renters, union members, education advocates, and lifelong Hawaiʻi residents who are deeply concerned about what establishing a new tax will mean for the people of Hawaiʻi. That’s why we are committed to educating the public about the negative effects of this proposed constitutional amendment.
We must emphasize that we are STRONG supporters of public schools. Many of us are graduates of Hawaiʻi public schools and now we have children who attend Hawaiʻi public schools. We are former teachers and Department of Education administrators.
We believe there are many good ideas for improving public education, but a new tax is not one of them. We must focus on implementing laws that are already in place to make our schools better before we ask our kamaʻaina to pay more taxes.
